It’s like when people have cancerous tumours removed. On the one hand, in many cases, they need to be removed to preserve life; on the other hand, the patient will have to make changes in their life otherwise, they would return. Lipomas would be the same in that if the root causes aren’t dealt with, it’s likely that they would come back in the same place or elsewhere.

In Jeffery’s patient’s case, I suspect the teeth would have been the source of taxing the system and leading to the loss of latency and resources. Like when you stop eating inflammatory foods, the inflammation in the gut goes away.

If there are a lot of emotional issues or you see a lot of spider veins and varicosity, best to work with the Lou’s first. If you suspect that the deficiency in the mediumship of blood is predominant and clearly the root of other issues, you would start with the 2nd confluence.

One difference is that Lou pathologies do not involve the Yaun level like divergent pathologies do. Lous would be more emotional toxins or other blood related pathologies (Ying level) whereas, the second confluence would have a wider application involving the Yuan and the Wei levels.

Clinically though, I should think that the two would affect each other, that is boosting blood though divergents would enhance the capacity for the Lous to hold pathology. And, doing Lou treatments would enhance the quality of blood as a medium for latency.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Frederic,

Sometimes, all it takes is one session of boosting the resources to help a patient mount a healing reaction on its own. So, when doing divergent treatments, even DSD, it’s good to warn the patient of potential healing responses such as more smelly discharge (sweating, urination, defecation, nasal). Not sure if she had any of these during those three days.

Also, when there is healing crisis, you would need to address it with a treatment in an ideal situation. In this case, perhaps a Gall bladder, Bladder sinew treatment with Jing Well points to ensure the pathology moves out.

One other aspect I have noticed clinically is that it’s best to the GuaSha of the zone you are treating (Tai Yang in this case) even when doing DSD, not just for SDS. Ann also suggests adding the Jing Well when doing DSD for pain just as little nudge for any pathology that wants to move out to have an exit while at the same time booking mediumship. I have found this to be clinically effective in such cases.

The follow up would all depend on where she is at next time you see her. If previously lacking in mediumship, unlikely that one DSD session would boost her all the way to health. Perhaps more DSD sessions may be in order depending on her symptoms. If hip joint is involved, 2nd confluence would be good place to start and then work your way back to 1st confluence.

    Hi Brian,

It definitely can be challenging as many vegans and vegetarians don’t exactly have healthy diets, or dietary habits for that matter. This can apply to meat eaters, too, but at least we have more choices to work with. Ultimately it boils down to what changes they are willing to make while receiving treatments from you. With vegans, it would be more challenging but easier for vegetarians to have a fairly well rounded diet. Some vegetarians are open to eggs, butte, fish or bone broth, so those can add some nutrition for building yin and blood.

Often, if find that dietary habits play more of role in peoples’ health, as in eating late at night, eating while multi-tasking, not chewing food, drinking too much while eating, ….. I would work with them on some of these, plus the obvious elimination/reduction of the stimulants such as sugar, spicy foods, coffee, chocolate,…. The rest, really, is up to them. Since you mentioned the Indian-American community, eating spicy may apply.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Brian,

You’d basically want to use non-coated needles along with metal coiled handles with the little bulb at the tip. If you have seen or worked with Carbo needles, those would be the ones if you happen to be in North America. In Europe there is another brand. I tend to go with 0.22-0.25mm gauge. No plastic handles!

I think there some previous posts on this topic in the “General” section as well, so there maybe more info there.

You can definitely do more than one Lou at a time as long as you have a good strong reason for doing so.

Also, you might consider joining Ann’s live chats which you can also watch recorded. A lot of your questions are covered there and it’s super great for both theory as well as clinical gems!

It does seem to be on the Du Mai and can be considered as a Du point. Personally, I favour Du 24 for the reasons that one might use Yin Tang.

    1) Yes, the Kidney trajectory does cover all of the kidney points on the torso, not just the two points shown.

    2) It’s a way to establish a kidney/heart connection, to my knowledge. Although Ann usually actually needles the Huatou point at T5 as opposed to Bl 15 for this purpose.

    3) I think T4 Huatou is included looking at the diagram. It wraps around to connect with Jen 17 but then comes back to T5 and works its way up.

Yes, as long as there is pain, it means there is a loss of latency and you need to keep boosting the medium, in this case very likely blood. But always look at the big picture too. There may be other issues going on too.

    Hi Frederic,

If you are doing a full Lou treatment, you simply bleed the Lou vessels but paying attention to when the color changes from dark to light, at which point you stop the bleeding so as not to make the patient weak if not enough resources. In the empty Lou treatments, you would harmonize blood by needling one point distal to the He-Sea points.

So strictly, you don’t need to be concerned about the weakness of the patient when doing Lou’s. Also, pay attention to when you notice a shift with the patient on the table such as deep inhalation and exhalation after you bleed a certain Lou point. Once you notice a shift like that, you no longer need to perform any further bleeding and can move on to the next phase of your session or leave it as is. Keep it focused.

I’m not sure what you mean by 6 flowers or tonifying bladder but generally it is okay to do any other treatment after a Lou session.

I think it can be both. If it started in early childhood, you could definitely consider the 8evs. Either way, first confluence dsd can help. Sometimes though, it starts later in life and you can still treat it with 8evs, Chong 3rd trajectory comes to mind. If it ivolves posture, gate, movement and general stance in life in relation to one’s self or the outside world, you could consider the qiaos.

    Lots of options.

    Hi Frederic,

You can consider both mediumship and trajectory for treating shingles. Regardless of where the lesions are, it’s usually a loss of mediumship of the 2nd confluence. So dsd to build mediumship of blood.

    Hi Anna,

I think you are on the right track with the divergents and Luo’s. I would say stay with the 3rd confluence dsd for a bit to build the fluids. The horizontal cracks on the tongue would indicate the fluid deficiency as you have pointed out. Once you have done a few of the 3rd, then switch to the second which would address the skin condition as well.

I think the biggest challenge is the intermittent fasting of one meal daily. That’s too extreme and for a reasonably active guy would most likely mean that he is depriving himself of essential nutrients to build the fluids and blood. Furthermore, this is taxing the kidney yang as it tries to compensate for the shortfall. This is probably why his pulses aren’t responding, or not as fast as you would expect. I would suggest exploring this angle and see why he feels he needs to be doing this type of an extreme diet. See if you can encourage him to eat at least twice but smaller meals.

That would be my input but you are on the right track.
