    Hello Lois and Armin,

Thank you both for your answers. Lois, it makes totally sense for the fight and flight answer when talking about it with the patient. I am currently reading ‘Heart Shock’ by Ross Rosen, and it talks about it very well. Also quoting Peter Levine in his book. But I’ll dig more informations about the authors you wrote about. Thanks for the references. As you said, the patient can feel when we are not sure about what to do, especially when we’re not yet accustomed to a form of treatment (such as bleeding the luos). I think it is something more prevalent with anxious people, as they have a tendency to see the world from their perspective, in which everything is uncertain. Sometimes it can be hard to not be attracted in their anxiety, at least it takes a good rooting from the practitioner to stay calm and confident!
Thanks Armin for you feedback, going for the easiest type of treatment (or at least the ones we are used to do) is a good advice. It is what I usually tend to do, but in this case my mind was really focus on the KI/BL Luos. Guess it would have be better to not overthink as you said and do for the first one something simple.
    Cheers,
    Antoine

    Hello Armin,

I agree with for the movement of bringing the legs towards the chest is Taiyin, but I wonder about when you are in this position and you roll your legs on the side to get into a sitting position at the border of the bed. For me this type of movement would indicate a Shaoyin Sinew, but I may be wrong. So I am curious to hear about experiences that each of us can have on the subject !

Nice to have your feedback on the case, and to have more insight on the Yangming. It feels that it is one we often overlook when there is back pain and chest pain. Hope she gets a full recovery with your treatments.
    Cheers,
    Antoine

    Hello Ann and Armin,

I apologise for my late answer, I have been pretty busy the past few months.
Unfortunately I didn’t see the patient after writing this post. But going into the process of thinking about it is a really good exercise. Coming from the a Japanese tradition, I often in my mind tend to think right away at the Kidneys (primary channel) which is from my experience not often the best choice.
Ann, I would be very interested if you could in your next chat with Cody talk a bit about the mechanism at play, from the Advanced Acupuncture point of view, for the healthy sexual life of both male and female. About the arousal, the fluid mechanisms etc. I find it difficult to find informations on the subject, and now with a bit of knowledge about the Sinew channels I wonder how all of these parts work together. Or maybe do you have a reading to recommend ?
    Thank you!

    Hello Armin,

I would also consider Shaoyin for the treatment. Getting out of bed can include a lot of movements and its can be difficult to know what the patient means. It is the actual movement of getting up when she is already sitting on the corner of the bed ? Turning to get into a sitting position before getting up ? As she mentioned pain when turning side to side in bed, I guess (still new to this also!) it can be seen also as a shaoyin. Often we drag the legs towards our chest when doing this type of movement.
That just an idea, hope your patient is already going well with the last Yangming treatment.
    Cheers,
    Antoine

    Hello Armin,

From what I can gather, there is activity at the GB Sinew, the KI pulse is a bit to floating and tight. About the overall condition, the sleep is ok but he had digestive issues since a young age mainly with smelling stools and smelling winds that can be annoying for him. Otherwise he is quite healthy, has physical activities few times a week. Not specific relational issues otherwise.
I’ll consider the PC next time as well.
    Thank you for your answer,
    Antoine

    Hello Elizabeth,

I’m no expert on the subject, but I’ll try my best. From my understanding you can use the PC sinew as it fits the paralysis description of your patient. I would also add the LV sinew, due to the fact that you have a paralysis in the left leg and when the arm yin sinew are affected it means a weakness in the leg yin sinew as well. Maybe first tonify the deficiencies she has. But the fact that she has no sensation below the xiphoid process hints maybe another channel system that the sinews, and also the fact that it happened without any trauma. Maybe divergents ? I am not enough confortable with the other channels system so I’ll leave this to someone more competent that me to explain it.
Hope your patient gets better soon,
    Antoine

    Hello Lois,

In addition of Ann’s book, I watched the seminar on Sinews from Jeffrey Yuen on the ACCM website :

Sinew Channels of Classical Chinese Medicine

He explains the movements, diagnosis with Lunar/Solar cycle, pathogens etc.
I don’t know about another videos on the subject, but I will definitively happy to watch more.

    Hello Armin,

At the beginning I was a bit confused with the sinew differentiation as there is multiple positions in which you climb, and the patient cannot really tell if it is when holding with a straight arm, or during the pulling movement to reach another hold (therefore bending the arm).
I will work on Jueyin/Yangming with him next time in clinic.

I tried okyu on the local area, it helped but the results did not last long. I will combine it with the Sinew treatments.

Thanks for your detailed answer, it helps a lot.

Thank you Cody, I understand now more the difference between Sinew/Divergent in the approach. I tend not to look at hernia as something related to the “bone”, as in my head it is not something that classically we may not have known. I see the point now and change my mind about it.

I have a last question about the Sinews, can we also use the Kidney sinew ? As it goes to the spine directly, and as it is a chronic condition we may say that the pathogens are deeper thus affecting Bladder and Kidney Taiyang/Shaoyin. Would it be correct to focus the treatment on these two channels in addition of the sinew releases of DU-4 and DU-14 ?

    Hello Cody,

Thank you for your answer. Can we say that all herniated disk are pathogens in latency or is it a far reach ? If so, work on the Sinew channels only will not bring any satisfying results ?
I am not really familiar with the Divergent channels, never studying them with an experienced teacher. Only from the books. So I think I will not enter this arena for now. Do you it can be working on from the Primary + Sinew channels only ? If so, do you have any recommendations regarding the treatment ?
    Thank you,

    Hello Ann and Cody,

Thank you both for your answers. I am only seeing them right now, I didn’t yet subscribe for the live chat but I’ll definitively will ! If you answer it in the video I’ll check it during the day, if I read correctly all the previous live chat are accessible as well ?
Thank you Cody, I didn’t get well the difference between the movement/no movement. It will help greatly finding the right Sinew to work on.
Ann, I am from France and relatively new to this style of Acupuncture. I was working mainly with Japanese Acupuncture before, Ikeda sensei style. And I am trying to add to my practice all the channel systems. I have your two books and I’m watching the seminar from Master Yuen on ACCM. Hope to be able to come at one of your next seminar in Europe !
    Have a nice day,

    Hello everyone,

Glad to be have found the forum and to be able to discuss with you all about Classical Chinese Medicine.
Ann, can you explain a little bit more about the differentiation between the SP/LV Sinew in relation to the sitting position ? The act of sitting is related to the SP. So I was thinking that the position, as it is a retracted one, would be more correlated to it. Also as prolonged sitting damages Spleen, thus I’m a bit confused here. In my head, LV was really more about paresthesia or paralysis or pain elicited by any movements.
    Thank you for the answer,
    Antoine
