I have some college friends with a 17 year old who whose brain & spine tumor is not responding to treatment and were talking to me about acupuncture. The treatment options that are suggested are surgery or another round of chemo, in which both options may end up requiring the addition of the other.

He was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 2.5. At the time, he would vomit profusely, to the point of dry heaves, in the mornings and then sleep for 6 hours afterwards. After many trips to the ER, doctors found the tumor on a CT. He had surgery to remove it and has had many rounds of chemo throughout the years. The tumor has affected his brain development, and his dad said that, academically, he’s between a 1st and 3rd grade level (early childhood education level for those in non-US school systems). On a daily basis, he feels fine but has now significant pressure in one eye (can’t remember if he specified which one) and struggles with paying attention.

I have not yet seen the patient, so I don’t have pulse information, (which I explained to the dad is very important for me in choosing the treatment). My immediate thought was that this would be an 8X treatment, given the age at diagnosis, but would there be reason to think it could be divergent territory, given that it has come and gone–at least to some degree–over the years? And, regarding pressure in the eye, my immediate thought was a HT LUO treatment, though I feel ok about combining a luo treatment with a DC or 8X.

Thoughts? And, is there any chance that any treatments could affect the tumor in an undesirable way, encouraging it to grow more?

So sorry to hear about what this young man is going through.

I’ve not treated such a case but do recall Ann talking about treating a patient with brain tumors. She worked with the 5th confluence to try to hold it back. That strategy alone did not stop the progression in this particular case, and the one thing that Jeffrey suggested to her in a later conversation was that she could have also tried bleeding ST9. She didn’t elaborate any further, but my understanding of such an appropriate would be that the beginning of ST primary pathway up to ST9 is considered external and deals with any unresolved factors like fire toxins that get displaced to head.
